"It was during the peak of the solar eclipse totality that the ship invisibly landed on Earth, unbeknownst to any of its primitive inhabitants, ready to activate its payload that would destroy all human life on the planet within seconds. Unfortunately for its crew and the plan, a small dog crushed the ship accidentally while running to catch a Frisbee."
If you're fortunate enough to be in the financial and class situation to emigrate, you should know it's often a time consuming process — especially getting a visa. If you want to be somewhere else by January 20th you should start now. By the 6th of November there will not be time, especially if there's a sudden increase in demand.
TYPEWRITER ARTIST
You definitely didn’t know about such capabilities of a typewriter.
It turns out that with its help you can not only print text, but also create pictures . The main thing is to think everything through in advance and be patient.

@SteveBellovin @mattblaze He's running out of live friends.
Look, yall. I’m from Chicago, all I hear incessantly even from some people actually in the suburbs is how scary and dangerous the city is. Seems okay to bike around to me, and I travel lots of risky places solo, too.
I’m driving across Arkansas today. Did a lot of neat stuff, otherwise, but in transit I drove through this rural town. The first thing I see is a huge sign with a curfew prohibiting anyone from being outside after dark. The second sign is a suicide hotline billboard. The downtown is 3/4 abandoned and smashed other than a dollar store. Looks like a zombie movie.
My siblings in Dionysus…, I have indeed tried it in a small town. I left quickly.

@lou @tomjennings Yeah, letting users declare polymorphic procedures like write()/writeln() would have been a huge improvement.
Police used DNA and probability software to invent a likely face for a subject and then put that fake face through face recognition software. This is policing done by pure chance and it's beyond dangerous. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2024/03/cops-running-dna-manufactured-faces-through-face-recognition-tornado-bad-ideas #facerecognition

@danb Traditional search engines have operated in a fairly straightforward model of a value exchange, primarily providing links back to the sites from which information has been gathered. Generative AI systems for all practical purposes are a Take Everything and Give Nothing Back model, either not offering by default useful links back to sources, or making users take extra steps (that they're unlikely to do) to see those links. There simply is no comparison, and in essence these firms have now violated the unwritten understanding which was the basis for their being permitted to access that data in the first place.
