"During Friday prayers, they bombed the school with the worshippers inside,” Ibrahim Abu Amsh, an eyewitness told Drop Site at the scene. “Most of the injured were children—defenseless, hungry children. All of them were in a state of exhaustion, unable even to stand—they probably hadn’t slept all night due to hunger.”

Caregivers make less than fast food workers.
They clean wounds, lift bodies, and calm dementia.
Congress? Tossed them a pink slip wrapped in a flag.

Republicans cut funding, then ask, “Why is the system failing?”
That’s like setting fire to your house and suing the fire department for smoke damage.
1973: US Govt helps install Chilean dictator Pinochet
1987: Luis Leon survives torture at hands of Pinochet, escapes to USA, receives asylum
2025: ICE disappears Leon (now 82), lies to family that he's dead, he's actually in a Guatemalan hospital
He did everything right and legal, and ICE disappears him anyway. This is fascism through and through and anyone who supports this is complicit.
@brouhaha @thomholwerda I had to spend a few minutes yesterday disabling rounded corners on windows on my Win11 laptop yesterday - rounded corners seriously interfere with resizing windows - so I'm in even less of a charitable mood toward modern UI designers than usual. I am very tired of the high frequency of gratuitous and unwelcome aesthetic changes that degrade functionality and offer zero advantages beyond goosing the KPIs of random anonymous FAANG UI designers. The overuse and inappropriate use of the "hamburger" menu (or triple-dot or gear or whatever is in vogue this financial quarter) is a symptom of this accelerating enshittification of the desktop UI and the general trend of ignoring consent, breaking trust, and stripping agency from those who buy and use these systems. Maybe a lot to read into an icon with three meaningless bars but it's an easy example of enshittification.
@brouhaha @thomholwerda Not every computer is a phone with a 6.7" diagonal screen. Some computers actually use windowing systems with carefully designed interface standards that don't change every 90 days.
Aside: It is sad that I have to know the word skeuomorphism. With rare exception, people who use it derisively ought to be pushed down the nearest flight of stairs.
Here me out; Using a blinged out 747 that government doesn't need, the FAA could fill it with test dummies that body shapes and apparel to approximate billionaires and politicians that might reasonably be expected to be passengers in such a plane and then crash it to measure what the survivability would be and to make recommendations for future custom air craft. For science and the greater good, of course.
I wrote some weekend words on why you should think twice before allowing AI access to your email, calendar, or any other personal data. This may seem obvious to some, but perhaps not to others: the privacy and security risks just aren't worth it.
ICE is offering a $132K to $185K per year for supervisory roles & $306K per year to concentration camp managers. Both jobs have ZERO education requirement.
Meanwhile the average starting salary is $46,526 for teachers and $68,485 for nurses. Both jobs require a Bachelors degree & often a graduate degree.
It's a lie that we can't pay teachers & nurses. An uneducated and sick populace is easier to control, creates higher crime rates, and feeds the prison industrial complex. This is by design.

There are p-l-e-n-t-y of other reasons not to buy from Amazon, but I was reminded today of a big one: the last three electronic devices I purchased “new” were all very obviously used. A Surface Go 4 in a package with a broken seal and its frame slightly bent. An ereader with a fingerprint on the screen. And a laptop dock that was so scuffed and scratched and dinged-up that it had to have been somebody’s road unit (it even had the residue from a sticker—probably a corporate asset-tracking barcode—not fully pealed off of the bottom).
Yes, you should stop using Amazon because they are exploiting workers and fueling fascism. But they are also clawing back the convenience and affordability that made you so reliant on them in the first place. They aren’t a good partner to do commerce with, even if there weren’t bad guys sitting at the top.

Google has removed four key points from its AI principles. Specifically, it previously read that the company would not pursue AI applications involving (1) weapons, (2) surveillance, (3) technologies that “cause or are likely to cause overall harm,” and (4) technologies whose purpose contravenes widely accepted principles of international law and human rights.
Those principles are gone now.

Trump's is a theory of all presidential powers and no obligations; that concedes no responsibility toward those who voted against him; and that treats rival elected officials not as reflecting elements of a divided and uncertain democratic will, but as traitors to that will if they cross him.

“In a functioning democracy with actual rule of law, the best products have the opportunity to win. In an authoritarian system, the company that makes the dictator happy wins—and that’s it.” https://www.techdirt.com/2025/07/17/fascism-for-first-time-founders/
@1br0wn Sadly, people being nice to one another doesn’t drive ‘engagement' and thus profits.
Do not stay at a Hyatt hotel. They're running fake "smoking detectors" specifically as a revenue-generating scheme and arbitrarily fining guests $500.
