i think the best way to use LLMs is this: don't type into the AI chatbot's input field. instead, write a description of the problem in a text file. work through the specifics of what you want to accomplish, and how you'd go about doing it. once you've got a few hundred words of ideas and planning, you can go back to the empty, unused AI tab and close it. then begin doing the work yourself. consider sending your notes to friends or experts. when you're done, remember to thank them for their help!
Child poverty more than doubled last year.
And their solution?
Slash Medicaid and SNAP.
Because nothing screams “pro-family” like booting toddlers from doctor visits and nutrition programs.
Medicaid covers 1 in 5 Americans, 60% of nursing home residents, and 40% of kids.
Cut it, and we’re not “tightening belts.”
We’re slashing throats—slowly, bureaucratically, and with plausible deniability.
They’re proposing $800 billion in Medicaid cuts—gutting care for nearly 50% of U.S. children.
No big deal. Just wiping out the lifeline that helps kids with asthma breathe and NICU babies survive.
But hey, “entitlements,” right?

The plan could result in 8.6 million people being removed from Medicaid.
Parents. Kids. Cancer patients.
But sure, the real threat is someone getting therapy without first selling a kidney.
Republicans love to say “tighten the belt” when it comes to Medicaid.
Easy to say when you’ve never had to choose between chemo and rent.
This isn’t about budgets — it’s about cruelty.
We don’t lack money.
We lack morals.
Tax breaks for billionaires pass without debate.
But helping kids with disabilities?
That’s “controversial.”
The cruelty is the point.

"During Friday prayers, they bombed the school with the worshippers inside,” Ibrahim Abu Amsh, an eyewitness told Drop Site at the scene. “Most of the injured were children—defenseless, hungry children. All of them were in a state of exhaustion, unable even to stand—they probably hadn’t slept all night due to hunger.”

Caregivers make less than fast food workers.
They clean wounds, lift bodies, and calm dementia.
Congress? Tossed them a pink slip wrapped in a flag.

Republicans cut funding, then ask, “Why is the system failing?”
That’s like setting fire to your house and suing the fire department for smoke damage.
1973: US Govt helps install Chilean dictator Pinochet
1987: Luis Leon survives torture at hands of Pinochet, escapes to USA, receives asylum
2025: ICE disappears Leon (now 82), lies to family that he's dead, he's actually in a Guatemalan hospital
He did everything right and legal, and ICE disappears him anyway. This is fascism through and through and anyone who supports this is complicit.
@brouhaha @thomholwerda I had to spend a few minutes yesterday disabling rounded corners on windows on my Win11 laptop yesterday - rounded corners seriously interfere with resizing windows - so I'm in even less of a charitable mood toward modern UI designers than usual. I am very tired of the high frequency of gratuitous and unwelcome aesthetic changes that degrade functionality and offer zero advantages beyond goosing the KPIs of random anonymous FAANG UI designers. The overuse and inappropriate use of the "hamburger" menu (or triple-dot or gear or whatever is in vogue this financial quarter) is a symptom of this accelerating enshittification of the desktop UI and the general trend of ignoring consent, breaking trust, and stripping agency from those who buy and use these systems. Maybe a lot to read into an icon with three meaningless bars but it's an easy example of enshittification.
@brouhaha @thomholwerda Not every computer is a phone with a 6.7" diagonal screen. Some computers actually use windowing systems with carefully designed interface standards that don't change every 90 days.
Aside: It is sad that I have to know the word skeuomorphism. With rare exception, people who use it derisively ought to be pushed down the nearest flight of stairs.
Here me out; Using a blinged out 747 that government doesn't need, the FAA could fill it with test dummies that body shapes and apparel to approximate billionaires and politicians that might reasonably be expected to be passengers in such a plane and then crash it to measure what the survivability would be and to make recommendations for future custom air craft. For science and the greater good, of course.

I wrote some weekend words on why you should think twice before allowing AI access to your email, calendar, or any other personal data. This may seem obvious to some, but perhaps not to others: the privacy and security risks just aren't worth it.
